Drive By, Drive By

Community-Based Installation | 2023

Drive By, Drive By is a community-centered installation created during a residency with Sidewalk Festival Detroit, in partnership with Canfield Consortium. The work offers a space for collective grieving, reflection, and healing for families impacted by drive-by shootings.

The installation invited participants to bring photographs, memories, and personal reflections to honor loved ones lost to gun violence. Rather than representing trauma visually, the project centered care, ritual, and presence, allowing grief to be acknowledged within a supportive, communal environment.

The work is informed by personal experience. Having lost a family member to a drive-by shooting, I understand the quiet, ongoing weight that violence leaves behind. Drive By, Drive By was created as an offering to communities most affected by gun violence, transforming remembrance into an act of resilience and positioning art as a tool for collective care.
